The Chemical Peels Range From Lower To Higher Enzymatic Concentrations, Including:

What Is A Chemical Peel Procedure?

A chemical peel is a cosmetic procedure that involves the application of an acid-based solution to the skin, effectively removing its top layers. As a result, the outer layers of dead skin will peel away, revealing a fresh, smoother, and more radiant complexion. Depending on the specific goals and the depth of treatment required, multiple sessions of light or medium peels may be necessary to achieve the desired results.

These peels are commonly employed to address various skin concerns such as sun damage, uneven skin tone, acne, acne scars, fine lines, and signs of aging.

Chemical peels can be performed as standalone treatments or in combination with other cosmetic procedures. They are available in different depths, ranging from light to deep. While deeper chemical peels can yield more dramatic results, they also entail longer recovery times.

How Many Chemical Peels Are Needed For Results?

The number of chemical peels required to achieve desired results varies depending on the specific condition being treated. For example, issues like sun damage or acne may necessitate multiple peels. While some improvement is noticeable after each peel, it typically takes a series of about six peels to fully realize the intended effect.

Aftercare

Following a chemical peel, you may experience mild redness in the treated area, similar to a mild sunburn, lasting from several hours to two days. Most patients will start peeling two days after the procedure, and this peeling phase can last up to one week, depending on the type of peel used. Don’t be concerned if your skin doesn’t peel; in some cases, effective peels on well-maintained skin may not result in visible peeling.

  • Gently wash your face twice daily using your fingertips and a mild cleanser, such as Cetaphil.
  • Apply a gentle, thick moisturizing cream or prescribed cream twice daily. Avoid picking or peeling the healing skin, which could lead to excessive redness or scarring. The skin will naturally shed when it’s ready.
  • It’s essential to apply a daily sunscreen with SPF 30-50 and avoid direct sunlight until your skin has fully recovered.
